The answer is yes! In a study carried out by Runrepeat, during the 2020 lockdown, sport practice has grown and a lot!
According to almost 13.000 participants, sport practice and, above all, its frequency grew significantly during periods of confinement, with the biggest growth from those who practiced less sport.
Dividing participants by the number of times they practiced sport, the conclusions were unequivocal:
Those who exercised between 1 and 2 times a week, on average, increased the number of workouts 88%
Those who practiced exercise up to 3 times a week, on average increased the number of workouts 38%
The exception was the most active participants, who practiced exercise 4 or more times a week, decreased the number of workouts by 14%
Regarding running practice, the growth is even greater!
Those who ran 1 to 2 times a week, on average increased the number of workouts 117%
Those who ran up to 3 times a week, on average increased the number of workouts 55%
Similary with the most active athletes, who ran 4 or more times a week, decreased the number of runs by 9%
The practice of sport is fundamental to the times we live in. There is recognized scientific evidence that demonstrates that the regular practice of physical activity is preventively associated with the most varied causes of mortality, including Covid-19, and contributes to the mental and emotional health of those who practice it!
